Heartbreak Conditioning founder and owner Cole Smith travelled to the USA in 2008 to learn from the best of the best in Strength and Conditioning and MMA training. He drew on inspiration from this trip as well as Cole's time in the New Zealand Military as a unit physical trainer and 10 years of personal training experience to come up with the first Heartbreak Outdoor Training system. The training system was developed to test individual’s fitness both mentally and physically, taking people further than what they thought was possible. The Heartbreak Training System continues to develop and evolve today. Heartbreak has come a long way from humble beginnings with outdoor training to their recent training facility "Heartbreak HQ", gold coasts premier Strength and Conditioning, MMA and fitness centre.
Heartbreak HQ offers over 30 Group fitness Classes each with their own unique heartbreak twist. From Heartbreak Fat Blast, Heartbreak Strength, heartbreak power Classes which are all designed to cater for all fitness levels from the beginner to the advanced professional athletes and MMA fighters, not to mention specialized fight coaches’ in a number of styles including Judo, wrestling, boxing, Brazilian jiu jitsu, Muay Thai and MMA.

Heartbreak HQ's Unique Program Design and group fitness system
A big issue that is faced with your gym goers is never knowing exactly what workout or program to follow either this is due to a lack of knowledge, boredom or an over bombardment of info from the latest and greatest programs from late night Google searches. The Heartbreak Training System takes the guess work out of your "Workout" Cole and Phil draw on there 20 years of combined training experience and create a full seven day training program every fortnight the program is designed to build functional strength, boost energy, blast fat, increase lean muscle mass, increase speed, agility, balance and core stability after it is designed it then gets written up on Heartbreak HQ's Training wall for all members to easily follow. All you have to do is come in pick the day of week then follow the prescribed workout for that day. Every day there is time slots where Coach Cole or Phil are on the floor actively taking the session and for the rest of the open gym times either Cole or Phil are on hand to answer any questions or to help with the program for that day. Obviously not everyone has the same Goals or fitness levels so these individuals are catered for too either through simple exercise regressions or progressions or if you have more specific goals you can choose to take on some personal Training sessions or have a personalized program created for you.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, including boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, karate, judo, kung fu and other styles. The roots of modern mixed martial arts can be traced back to the ancient Olympics where one of the earliest documented systems of codified full range unarmed combat was utilized in the sport of Pankration. Various mixed style contests took place throughout Europe, Japan and the Pacific Rim during the early 1900s. The combat sport of Vale Tudo that had developed in Brazil from the 1920s was brought to the United States by the Gracie family in 1993 with the founding of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is the largest MMA promotion company worldwide.
The more dangerous Vale Tudo style bouts of the early UFCs were made safer with the implementation of additional rules, leading to the popular regulated form of MMA seen today. Originally promoted as a competition with the intention of finding the most effective martial arts for real unarmed combat situations, competitors were pitted against one another with minimal rules. Later, fighters employed multiple martial arts into their style while promoters adopted additional rules aimed at increasing safety for competitors and to promote mainstream acceptance of the sport. The name mixed martial arts was coined by Rick Blume, president and CEO of Battlecade, in 1995. Following these changes, the sport has seen increased popularity with a pay per view business that rivals boxing and professional wrestling.
Heartbreaks goal is to produce our own style and start to bridge the gap in calibre of fighter from this side of the planet, whilst increasing discipline in the youth and let the world recognise the potential that is available in Australia, nz and the pacific. However Not everyone who trains in MMA wishes to fight, most of our members train in MMA and the different disciplines to learn a new skill for fun, fitness, confidence and discipline.
